Deep Pool in 400m Motivates LaShawn

There's no shortage of talent in the 400-meter sprint entering this year's Olympics, but there's no doubt in LaShawn Merritt mind that he's at the head of the class.

LaShawn crossed first in Beijing and plans to do the same in London this summer (AP Photo).

LaShawn is 2-for-2 in the 400m so far this year, including his most recent run, a world-leading 44.19 in Doha last Friday.

After his 2011-2012 season with the Dallas Mavericks came to an abrupt end, Lamar threw himself into his workouts, with his mind set on securing a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic basketball team. He recently reached out to Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski to ask that he remain in consideration for the team.

An Eye-Popping Run in Doha

As the 2012 outdoor season gets into full swing, LaShawn Merritt just keeps getting better.

LaShawn competed in the 400 meters for the second time this year on Friday and after taking the world lead in his opener in Guadeloupe two weeks ago, LaShawn outdid even himself in Qatar.

Running in the opener of the 2012 Samsung Diamond League season in Doha, Qatar, LaShawn ran a blazing 44.19-second 400 to set a new World Lead and meet record.

Angelo Stays Ready for 4x400

Angelo Taylor knows the competition will be stiff for Team USA to defend its long-standing crown in the 4x400 at the 2012 Summer Olumpics in London, but consider him confident they'll get it done.

AT got another tune-up for that 4x400 on Friday, running the individual 400m at the Samsung Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar. With a season's best time of 44.97 seconds, Angelo took third in the event, behind USA teammate LaShawn Merritt, who set the 400m World Lead with a time of 44.19. Watch the race below:

Utah’s Bright Future Excites Al

As Al Jefferson and the Utah Jazz cleaned out their lockers on Tuesday following their first round playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, there was an air of positivity around the locker room that isn't common among the recently defeated.

But the 2011-2012 Utah Jazz weren't a common team. Picked by many to finish last in the Western Conference and left for dead after an opening night loss in Los Angeles, the Jazz fought for the next 65 games to reach their playoff dreams and did so in thrilling fashion.

Season Ends in Salt Lake

Al Jefferson and the Utah Jazz walked off the court for a final time on Monday night, their last efforts to save their season proving fruitless.

But while Al was upset that the season ended as it did — a four-game sweep at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs in the postseason's first round — he was also proud of what the Jazz had accomplished in a season few outside their locker room anticipated would end in the playoffs.
